CLINTON, Maine — A Maine man attempting to avoid an arrest jumped on a freight train and rode it into town, authorities said.
David Bowring, 32, of Clinton, was later arrested and charged with a probation hold and aggravated domestic violence assault, Clinton police Chief Stanley “Rusty” Bell told The Morning Sentinel.
Police responded to a call in Clinton on Monday shortly before 3 p.m. EDT about a couple fighting, according to the newspaper.
Officers spoke to Bowring’s girlfriend, who alleged that he struck her during an argument, WABI-TV reported. Police were initially unable to find Bowring but then a K-9 unit was able to discover him near railroad tracks, according to WGME-TV.
Police said that Bowring jumped on a moving freight train and rode it into the center of town, the television station reported.
According to The Morning Sentinel, Bowring went to a friend’s house in Clinton, who called police to report his location. Bowring’s friend took him to a convenience store, where state troopers held him until a Clinton police officer could arrive, the newspaper reported.
Bowring was taken to the Kennebec County Jail and was released after posting bail, WGME reported.
