Man accused of critically injuring 1-year-old girl with brick thrown into vehicle

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio man is accused of critically injuring a 1-year-old girl after allegedly throwing a brick into a vehicle the child was riding in, authorities said.

Brandon Lee Roberts, 29, of Columbus, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with felonious assault, according to Franklin County online court records.

According to the Columbus Police Department, Roberts allegedly had an argument with the woman at 11:10 a.m. EDT, WCMH-TV reported.

The woman, who was in the front seat of the vehicle, was accompanied by a man and the child, according to the television station.

Police said that Roberts allegedly threw the brick at the vehicle, shattering the driver’s side rear window and striking the child in the head, WBNS-TV reported.

It is unclear what led to the argument.

The child was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with serious injuries, according to the television station. According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, the girl suffered a fractured skull and needed surgery.

Franklin was arrested on Tuesday, WCMH reported.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, online records show.
