Pope Francis is nursing an injured arm after falling for the second time in about a month.
The Associated Press reported the pope did not break his arm but is wearing a sling as a precaution, a Vatican spokesperson said.
“This morning, due to a fall at Santa Marta House, Pope Francis suffered a contusion to his right forearm, without fracture. The arm was immobilized as a precautionary measure,” the spokesperson wrote.
The pontiff still held an audience after the fall.
This was the second time the pope had fallen in recent weeks. He fell and hit his chin on his nightstand on Dec. 7 leaving a large bruise.
He has also frequently used a wheelchair since 2022 because of knee pain and mobility issues, CNN reported.
In a recent autobiography, the 88-year-old Pope Francis said his health is good but “the reality is, quite simply, that I am old.”
He went on to say it was “embarrassing at first to have to use a wheelchair, but old age never arrives by itself, and it must be accepted for what it is,” CNN reported.
Francis does not plan on following in the footsteps of Pope Benedict XVI, who resigned from the capacity in 2013, breaking a six-century tradition, the AP reported.
