TAMPA, Fla. — Pro wrestler-turned-actor John Cena married girlfriend Shay Shariatzadeh in a private ceremony in Tampa, Florida, on Monday, according to several media outlets.
E! Online reported that Cena, 43, a 16-time world heavyweight wrestling champion, has been in a relationship with the Canadian resident Shariatzadeh since March 2019.
The marriage was first reported by Pro Wrestling Insider. The couple filed for a marriage certificate in early October in Florida, according to Entertainment Tonight. The couple made their relationship official in October 2019 when they appeared at the “Playing With Fire” premiere, E! Online reported.
Mike Calta, of WHPT radio in Tampa, also announced the wedding and claimed he had seen the marriage license.
This is Cena’s second marriage. He was previously married to Elizabeth Huberdeau, but the couple was divorced in Florida in July 2012, according to Hillsborough County court records.
Cena also had a high-profile romance with wrestler Nikki Bella, but they split in April 2018 after a nine-month engagement. Cena had proposed to then-girlfriend Nikki Bella during WrestleMania 33, according to Wrestling Inc.
Cena’s run of world title reigns, mostly with World Wrestling Entertainment, is tied with Ric Flair for the most in grappling history, according to Bleacher Report.
