The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall of more than 272,000 Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles because of a battery issue.
The recall affects some 2021 to 2023 Bronco Sports and 2022 to 2023 Mavericks. The 12-volt battery they were sold with “may experience degradation and suddenly fail,” the NHTSA said in a news release.
The batteries were made in China under the Camel Battery brand and were used between February 5, 2020, and Oct. 20, 2022, according to government documentation.
The same vehicles were recalled under the NHTSA’s designation 24V-267 but will have the new repair completed.
Dealers will inspect the battery and if necessary, replace it for free. Owners of the recalled vehicles should get letters in the mail after Feb. 3 but can contact Ford directly at 866-436-7332. The internal recall number is 25S02.
