PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Rhode Island zoo recently welcomed some adorable new additions to its family: four baby river otters.
According to the Newport Daily News, the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence shared the news Sunday, sharing photos of the pups on social media.
“Surprise! The RWPZoo family got a little bigger with the birth of four North American river otters – two girls, and two boys,” the zoo captioned the Facebook post. “Born to mom Mishi and dad Clyde, who passed away last April 2020, these quadruplet pups squeezed their way into our hearts with their arrival on Feb. 1, 2021. Keepers have yet to decide on names for the pups.”

Mishi and the babies “are bonding behind-the-scenes and will remain off exhibit for several weeks,” the post added.
Typically, river otter pups open their eyes for the first time when they are 1 month old, begin walking at 6 weeks and start to swim around 8 weeks, according to the zoo.
