The Chattanooga Fire Department says a semi-truck carrying hundreds of chickens crashed into a guardrail and flipped over the median around 1 p.m. Tuesday. The driver was trapped in the cab and it took about 90 minutes to get him out. The CFD says his injuries are non-life-threatening.

The chickens were thrown all over the road, according to the CFD. Most of the chickens were killed and were scattered over the highway, according to WDEF. However, a few chickens did survive. The CFD says a crew from the poultry processing company went to the scene to rescue the live chickens and help crews clean up the area.

The CFD says other drivers called 911 for assistance and some of them stopped their cars and tried to get the driver get out of the truck.
