COURT HOUSE, N.J. — Who knew rodents could be so adorable?
According to NJ.com, New Jersey’s Cape May County Park and Zoo announced Tuesday that capybaras Budette and Mikey welcomed twin pups on Feb. 3. The new arrivals, who now weigh about 4 pounds each but could eventually reach 60 to 175 pounds, are the parents’ second litter this year, the news outlet reported.
“The pups are currently off exhibit in the capybara barn, but will get to go out to explore once the weather warms up consistently,” the zoo wrote in a Facebook post, which included a photo of the mom with the two newborns.
Zoo officials do not yet know the pups’ sex, NJ.com reported.
According to National Geographic, capybaras are the world’s largest rodents and typically live in South America. The mammals are considered semi-aquatic and are known for their swimming ability, the outlet reported.
