Woman's body recovered from vehicle in Norcross pond

A woman's body, identified as 53 year old Laura Jones Tavel of Duluth, has been recovered from a vehicle that plunged into a Norcross pond during the morning rush hour.

Witnesses told police the Honda CRV took a curve on Peachtree Corners Circle and went straight into the water. The woman apparently made no attempt to escape.

"We're not sure what happened to her if it was a medical condition that caused her to do that or if she was distracted," says Gwinnett Police Cpl. Ed Ritter.

Hall County divers were called into the recover the woman's body and assist Gwinnett firefighters in towing the vehicle from the water.

Police were attempting to notify her next-of-kin after finding identifying information inside the vehicle.
