ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia senior quarterback Stetson Bennett has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, according to a league announcement.
Bennett shares this week’s honor with Kentucky running back Chris Rodriguez.
This marks Bennett’s first weekly award during the sixth start of his career and first in 2021. Last week, senior safety Christopher Smith (Defensive Player) and senior nose tackle Jordan Davis (Defensive Lineman) garnered a pair of the SEC accolades.
Bennett, a native of Blackshear, Ga., torched UAB to tie a school record with five touchdown passes, which all came in the opening half. He finished the game 10-for-12 for 288 yards after starting the day 5-for-5 with four scoring passes of 73, 12, 89 and 61 yards.
Bennett’s 89-yard touchdown pass to freshman tight end Brock Bowers was the ninth-longest passing touchdown play in Georgia history. Bennett completed the contest with a monstrous pass efficiency rating of 422.4.
The No. 2 Bulldogs (2-0) play their second game in a row at home as they play host to South Carolina (2-0) on Saturday. ESPN will televise the matchup at 7 p.m.
