ATHENS------The Georgia Bulldogs 56-game schedule this season includes Southeastern Conference home series with Mississippi State, Florida, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Missouri.
The college baseball season begins Feb. 18 in Athens at Foley Field with a three-game series against Albany In fact, 16 of Georgia’s first 21 contests will be at home. During this early stretch, the Bulldogs will resume their three-game weekend series with Georgia Tech like they did in 2020. The Bulldogs will travel to Atlanta on Friday March 4. Tech will come to Foley Field on Saturday, March 5 and the final game of the series will be Sunday, March 6 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. This is the home of the Gwinnett Stripers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, with a capacity for 10,427 fans. Georgia has a few other games at Minor League stadiums. The March 1 contest with Wofford will be at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. This park serves as home for the Greenville Drive, the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The stadium, with a capacity around 6,000, shares the same dimensions of their parent club’s major league home, Fenway Park. It has a shorter version of a “Green Monster” in left field. Georgia’s game with Georgia Southern on March 8 will be in North Augusta, S.C., at SRP Park, home of the Augusta GreenJackets with a capacity around 5,000. They are the Class A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Also of note, Georgia will play a two-game set with rival Clemson. The Bulldogs will travel to Clemson on April 5 with the Tigers returning to Foley Field on April 19.
Georgia will open SEC play at home against the defending national champion Bulldogs from March 18-20. The other SEC home series will be with the Gators (Apr. 1-3), Aggies (Apr. 14-16), Commodores (May 6-8), and then close out the regular season with the Tigers (May 19-21). Georgia’s road trips in the conference will be at Kentucky (March 25-27), South Carolina (Apr. 8-10), Alabama (Apr. 22-24), LSU (Apr. 29-May 1) and Tennessee (May 13-15).
The SEC Tournament will feature the league’s top 12 finishers in the regular season and be played in Hoover, Ala., from May 24-29. NCAA Regional action will be June 3-6 with Super Regionals slated from June 10-13, both played at various campus sites. The 2022 season culminates with the College World Series (CWS) from June 17-27 in Omaha, Neb. The Bulldogs have made six appearances in Omaha including winning the national title in 1990 and reaching the CWS Finals in 2008. The Bulldogs are in their ninth year under Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin. The Bulldogs will have 29 returning lettermen, four players that were redshirted and 14 newcomers. Recently, Georgia’s incoming recruiting class was ranked 15th nationally by Baseball America. The 2021 Bulldogs finished the year 31-25, going 1-2 at the SEC Tournament.
Fall practice is underway and once again teams can play two games against other college squads plus a third against an international team during the fall. The Bulldogs will face Team Ontario Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Foley Field at 6 p.m., and they will play host to Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. Additional Information on these home exhibitions will be provided later this fall.
Georgia will conclude fall workouts with an exhibition against the University of Florida on Oct. 29 in Jacksonville. First pitch at 121 Financial Ballpark (home of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins) will be at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the Florida exhibition are $15 and can be purchased online via Ticketmaster at this link: https://gado.gs/7kd
