The weekly U.S. Drought Monitor data indicates that drought conditions are improving, but not completely eradicated from Metro Atlanta, as well as the rest of the state of Georgia.
Beneficial rainfall has been rather plentiful throughout the month of July, with as much as 2-4 inches of rainfall recorded throughout the state this week alone.
As a result, as much as 42 percent of the state is no longer experiencing any form of drought conditions, which is an improvement compared to July 12 when only 22 percent of the state was without drought. As recently as July 5, Severe Drought conditions were developing in North Georgia, but these conditions have been eased.
As recently as one month ago, as much as 94 percent of the state of Georgia was experiencing some form of drought.
Still, even with the recent rains, D1 Moderate Drought conditions are still observed in northwest Metro Atlanta, including Cobb, Paulding, Bartow, and Cherokee counties. Further north, Moderate Drought conditions are impacting Pickens, Dawson and Gilmer counties.
