January can be one of the coldest months in Metro Atlanta, and we’ll definitely feel the chill this weekend!
Despite the sunshine today, gusty northwest winds will pull in the Arctic air through the course of the afternoon. Be aware that some wind gusts may be as high as 30 mph, so while temperatures will be in the upper 40s to low 50s, it will feel much colder through the day.
Waking up early Saturday to run the Polar Opposite Peachtree Road Race? It will DEFINITELY feel like the opposite of July 4 as runners reverse the course from Piedmont Park to Lenox Mall!
Morning lows will be in the 20s for the suburbs, and Piedmont Park will also experience temperatures in the upper 20s before daybreak. However, winds will still be 5-10 mph through the morning, so wind chills will be in the 20s!
Through the afternoon, temperatures will stay 10 degrees colder than average as they rise into the mid 40s.
Temperatures will stay in the 30s late Saturday night into Sunday morning, they will rise in to the 40s by the time rain showers arrive into Metro Atlanta.
Rain will be heaviest late Sunday night into early Monday morning, with as much as 0.5 to 1 inch of rainfall possible by sunrise Monday. However, these rain showers will pull just-warm-enough-air into Metro Atlanta so that temperatures will remain in the 40s, resulting in a cold rain.
Once the rain moves out, some of the coldest air in over a year will arrive by Tuesday morning, as temperatures drop into the mid 20s and daytime highs stay in the mid 30s.
Dry conditions will prevail Tuesday through Friday of next week, however, if that changes... I will surely let you know!
